Adam has Autism Spectrum Disorder and was diagnosed when he was 2 years old. He is now 29 and part of the Neuro-Inclusive Autism Community Coalition Salt Lake City board.
He loves being outdoors enjoying nature and the scenery. If you are near a trail anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley you might see Adam enjoying nature. He loves being able to get good exercise by hiking and being out on his bike. He also loves road trips, especially to places like Moab to see Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. He also loves visiting Bryce Canyon National Park. He says that these parks are great resources to get outdoors and see life truly elevated. He loves enjoying parks in his community as well and he likes listening to the sounds of birds in the parks. He says it brings zen in his life. He loves going to the lake. One thing he is looking forward to is meeting someone that he can share his love of the outdoors with.
Some of his biggest triumphs have been on long hikes where he says, “he feels like the king of the mountain.” He’s been inspired by his favorite movie Forrest Gump. He visited Monument Valley a few years ago which is where Forrest decided that he’s, “pretty tired.” It inspired him and led him to believe that he can achieve anything he sets out to do. He is especially proud of when he skied down Park City Mountain for the first time on Mardi Gras when he was 10 years old.
He wants others to know that the outdoors really is for everyone no matter where you are. Whether that’s in the mountains, at the park, or at the beach, it is always good to get fresh air.
My nonprofit EveryBODY on Trails will be doing a joint meetup with the Coalition on Thursday, May 8th at 6pm at Fitts Park, South Salt Lake City!
